In-Character History
USS Excalibur NX/NCC 66702 (2372-2375)
The first starship Excalibur in the current lineage was the prototype for the Excalibur Project. The project itself was considered a success, but it was hastened to the front lines of the Dominion War because of a severe shortage of both starship and commanders. The Excalibur went missing and was later declared destroyed while no official statements otherwise were ever issued. Her commander was Captain Alex Wright.
It was originally believed that the Excalibur was on a secret mission in Dominion-held territory before the retaking of Deep Space 9. However that theory is nothing but conjecture and no evidence has ever been found of either the ship or the crew.
USS Excalibur NCC 66072-A (2376-2380)
In 2376, during a brief ceremony, a new Akira-class starship was christened the USS Excalibur as it neared its completion. She was handed to Captain Jonathan Ruthaford and taken directly into the service as an scout ship on the Romulan Neutral Zone as well as a light carrier as well. It was in this capacity that the Excalibur was ambushed and its commanding officer killed.
Its former Executive Officer, Commander Robert Martens, was offered command and he accepted in the beginning of 2379. The Excalibur resumed its main focus of patrolling the transport lanes on the Romulan Neutral Zone and was quite successful at it. The Excalibur was destroyed at the Battle of Black Mira while confronting a major pirate outpost in the area. Its commander was barely saved along with most of the crew. There was a court-martial and then-Rear Admiral Robert Martens was acquitted of all charges while another vessel was prepped.
USS Excalibur NCC 66702-B (2380-2383)
The longest lasting Excalibur of the current lineage, the Explorer-class vessel was launched in the beginning of 2380 under the command of Vice Admiral Robert Martens and executive officer Commander Jason Long. Both men had undergone extreme hardships during and after the Battle of Black Mira. Shortly after its shakedown cruise, the Excalibur was to take the lead in defensive actions against the Gorn. However, problems at Starfleet caused Vice Admiral Martens to be pulled from command and recalled to Earth. Commander Jason Long took command.
At a later date, Captain Jason Long went missing and a Captain John Tacoma took command for a while. Later, Captain Jason Long was recovered and resumed command of the Excalibur. Any information on this time of the Excalibur is strictly classified.
Captain Jason Long was promoted to Commodore and took command of Deep Space 6. There, the Excalibur was assigned as a support vessel for Deep Space 6. It now works primarily around the planet Qualor III and the Qualor System.
However, in the first half of 2383, after a confrontation with admiralty back on Earth, Bob Martens was recommissioned and given the rank of commodore along with the Excalibur to command once more.
Out-of-Character History
Pre-Historic (Before 2003)
Not much is known about the commanders or the journeys of the Excalibur before 2003. If you have information about that time, please add it.
USS Excalibur-A (2003)
In January of 2003, Bob Martens took over the USS Excalibur-A, an Akira-class vessel. It was a part of Task Force 93 under the command of Rear Admiral Marshall. The ship was placed under Captain Phelan Ward, and that is where everything started.
Throughout 2003 Bob was promoted from Commander to Captain and then to Commodore and Task Group Commanding Officer of a Task Group in Task Force 93. Later in the year he was promoted once more to Rear Admiral and the USS Excalibur became Task Force 93's flagship.
However, at the end of the year, the USS Excalibur-A was destroyed and replaced.
USS Excalibur-B (2004-2007)
In the beginning of 2004 the crew of the Excalibur was moved to an Explorer-class vessel. Vice Admiral Robert Martens was still commanding both the Excalibur and Task Force 93. In the second half of 2004, Bob ran into some time commitments and command was handed over to the executive officer.
Command stayed with Jason Long until today when the Excalibur is a part of Task Force 44 and attached to Deep Space 6 as a support vessel. Jason Long is currently the 2nd Executive Officer of Task Force 44. In the first half of 2007, Bob Martens will once again be taking command of the USS Excalibur. He will be accumulating another epic crew and going out to explore the unknown.
