Biographical Information

Childhood [2350-2362]

Sorimachi Yuji was the youngest of 4 children born into a large dysfunctional family in the small villiage of Hakuba. Hakuba village was a traditional farming community, located 300 kilometers north of Tokyo on Earth. His father, Ishiara Yuji, was a rice farmer who held strong contemptious views of modern society, and enforced his traditional views onto his family. Ishiara had a short and furious temper and, fueled by alcohol, he would often lash out at both Sorimachi and his mother, Nakayama.

Sorimachi hated his traditional schooling and learned how to look after himself quickly because he had to, skipping classes more often than not. When word of his poor attendence got back to Ishiara, a beating would swiftly follow. With the sudden death of his mother, Nakayama, in 2362, Sorimachi escaped his abusive father by moving to Australia to live with his grandparents.

Adolescence [2362-2367]

The transition from a traditional working village, to a modern urban city was a difficult one for a 12 year old Sorimachi, and it took him several months to settle into his new life in Australia. Helped by his grandparents, and with extensive one to one tutoring, it wasn't long before Sorimachi was enrolled in one of the local High Schools in Melbourne.

His High School years in Australia, were the best years of Sorimachi's childhood. He studied hard, but played harder making a lot of good friends along the way. In his second year of studies, he joined the school's swimming team where after a number of months coaching, he was selected to represent the school in national swimming events. In 2365, he returned from a competion with a gold medal in the 15's and under category. Winning the medal, was everything to Sorimachi that year. It made him realise that he could achieve anything in life providing he applied himself 100%.

In the summer of 2366, Sorimachi's grandfather encouraged him to take a part time job within the local history museum. While reluctant at first, he took the job and it was here that he grew to love ancient history.

Entering the Service [2367-2371]

By the age of 17, after having successfully completed his exams, Sorimachi applied to Starfleet Academy where his entry was accepted. In his first months, Sorimachi had to work twice as hard as the rest of his classmates just to keep up with the assigments and it wasn’t long before the stress and pressure began to grind away at his confidence. Having become close with a group of cadets who were in a similar position their new found friendship drove them forward to meet and exceed all the expectations which had been placed upon them. While not the most academically minded in his year, he was becoming more than competent with his studies and with the right encouragement, was focusing on the Operations Management courses which were becoming available.

Sorimachi graduated from the Academy as a qualified Operations Officer. Neither him, nor his friends were considered the elite of their year by any degree; however, they were happy their competence had shone through and were ready for their first assignments.

During the graduation celebrations, Sorimachi was informed that his father, Ishiara Yuji, had been found dead in his home earlier that morning. Following the post mortem, it was discovered that Ishiara had died from liver poisoining caused as a result of his years of alcohol abuse. Sorimachi remained on Earth long enough to arrange attend the funeral before being posted to his first starship assignment.

USS Intrepid [2371-2372]

Sorimachi spent the first year of his Starfleet career aboard the USS Intrepid as one of the Operations Officers. For the duration of his tour of duty aboard the Intrepid, it's mission was limited to border patrols along the de-militarized zone where they had more than their share of dealings with the colonists, the Maquis and the Cardassian Union.

During Sorimachi's first away mission to one of the Federation colonies within the DMZ, 3 officers from the away team were abducted from the colony by suspected Maquis agents. As the Titan had already left the sector to respond to a distress call, Sorimachi was left with 2 junior security crewmen and the local law enforcement officers to deal with he incident. Within hours of the abduction, they were able to locate the missing members of the away team in an abandoned warehouse where they had been tortured, and killed.

The horrific images at the scene of the murders, traumatised Sorimachi. As a result, he attended countless counselling sessions with the ships medical team until he was able to move on from the incident.

Starbase 225 [2372-2373]

With tensions mounting between the Klingons, Cardassians and Federation, Sorimachi was transferred to Starbase 225 to lead a team of senior enlisted operations and maintenance personnel in the refit of several aging starships in drydock. 2 months into his new role, war broke out between the Cardassian Union and the Klingon Empire. Within a matter of days, the previous alliance between the Federation and the Klingon Empire was dissolved, plunging the alpha quadrant into war.

During the conflicts that ensued amongst the outlying colony worlds, Starfleets resources in the refit of the ships at SB225 was pulled, and they were dispatched to the front lines in their existing conditions. With the change of pace aboard the station, Sorimachi found himself working in various areas of the Operations Department as other officers and enlisted personnel found themselves reassigned to more personnel hungry areas within the fleet. Where previously the starbase had a standard compliment of 17 Officers to manage the Operations Department, within 4 months of the hostilities commencing, this had been reduced to a skeleton team of 5 officers, including himself.

With the reduced headcount within the officers and enlisted personnel within the station, Sorimachi was able to prove himself a competent station operations officer and it wasn’t long before he became second in line to the existing Operations Manager. Sormiachi spent the remainder of the year working on several key projects within the station, learning very quickly how imperative it was to adapt in an ever changing environment. Personnel shortages were now common place throughout the fleet, and while the death toll from the skirmishes had risen, nothing could have prepared them for the onslaught brought about by the Dominion/Cardassian Alliance.

Sorimachi and his friends spent most of their social time together in Hisaishi’s, one of the stations quieter coffee bars. It was here that he met the woman that he fall in love with and eventually married, Faith Pearson. In the first year of their marriage, Faith fell pregnant and subsequently gave birth to their first son; Christian. With the war with the Dominion heating up, it wasn’t long before he found himself transferred and promoted alone to the USS Trident as Assistant Chief Operations Officer leaving his young family on the station.

USS Trident [2373-2375]

The Trident saw a lot of combat operations throughout the war and casualties followed in every engagement. After the untimely death of the Trident’s Chief of Operations during an engagement in 2374, Sorimachi was swiftly moved up to part of the senior staff. It was a hard time for everyone aboard the Trident, and Sorimachi found it particularly difficult in filling the gap left by his predecessor.

At the ceasing of hostilities, Sorimachi made the decision to stand down as a Department Head, so that he could be with his growing family on SB225. His decision impacted significantly on his future prospects within the fleet, and it was one which did not sit well with his Commanding Officer.

Starbase 225 [2375-2383]

With his previous years of experience aboard the station, it wasn’t long before he had settled back into a station management role.

Having spent 8 long years as the Assistant Manager of a Department with a headcount in excess of 200, Sorimachi's hard work and development were recognised by both his Department Head, and the station Commander. Many times before, he had been given lectures with regards to his potential promotional prospects within the fleet, and on each occasion he had rejected the notion of being transferred away from his family; until 2383.

Sorimachi's relationship with Faith had begun to take a backwards step as they began to encounter marrital problems. Late night arguments had become a regular occurance, and it didn't take long for them both to realise that resentment had come between them, and now they were no longer in love. It was a difficult time for the two, particularly in keeping up appearances for the sake of Christian who was now 10.

With the crew rotation due in late 2383, many of the existing senior staff were being re-assigned, with the exception of the Operations Manager who had now served on the station for over 15 years. Having spent the last 11 years as a junior Lieutenant, and with no immediate prospects of taking over the Department aboard SB225 in the long term, Sorimachi decided to place himself on the transfer list for reassignment within the fleet.

Having taken leave, Sorimachi and his family returned to his grandmother's home in Melbourne Earth, until he could be posted on a ship. It was at this time, that his marriage ended. While Sorimachi was being assigned to starship duties for the first time in almost a decade, Faith had taken the decision to remain on Earth.
