Description

Name

'IwyoHwI Jean Chandler, son of Kar'mi Nathanial Chandler.

Appearance

Jean has been an athlete for most of his life, continually training to be in and stay in the Starfleet Marine Corps. He is muscular but not to the extreme, however to underestimate his strength is to folly. His hair is prematurely gray but kept short and his face is completely clean shaven.

Psychological Information

Languages: Federation Standard, Klingon, French, Andorian, Rudimentary Romulan

Interests: Finding his place in the universe, Earth History, Klingon heritage, Ava.

Description of Personality

Almost clinically depressed as of late, however a renewed sense of purpose has developed with his enlistment into Starfleet. Chandler possesses a high moral attitude. He also has a quick temper and is never afraid to tell someone exactly what he thinks of them. Jean doesn't really trust his own will power any more. Previously he considered himself to be unbreakable, tested by years of training and service in the SFMC. However, after a special assignment where he was tortured relentlessly and betrayed by other Starfleet officers and was gravely wounded, Tank turned to alcohol. This habit is one that isn't fully broke, despite an enlistment in Starfleet. Tank is very cautious of who becomes his friend. Previously he guarded his friends with his life and respect had to be earned, now Tank is much more picky and getting close to him is harder than ever.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Tank is physically strong but in his own eyes he has become mentally weak, unable to pull himself up anymore. Until recently he was a heavy drinker, and while he wasn't belligerent while drunk he was very emotional and didn't know when to stop drinking. With the help of his long lost family and a coma that nearly killed him, Tank has broken his habits, but only tenuously, he can feel them pulling every second of every day.

Biographical Information

The Beginning [2350-2366]

Childhood [2350-2362]

Jean "Tank" Chandler was born on October 1, 2350 at 2:12am in Seattle, Earth. His parents were Carolyn and Nathanial Chandler, a Doctor and a career Marine Officer respectively. Tank was 4 lbs 2 ounces when born nearly 2 months premature, a rarity. He was their first and only child. After spending time in an incubator, Jean was taken home and seemed perfectly fine.

Tank's early childhood consisted of traveling with his parents around the quadrant while his Marine father and Doctor mother served on board a starship together.

At the age of 5, Tank's parents were ripped from him as they both were sent on a landing party that was ambushed by Romulans.

Jean was sent to live with an uncle, his mother's brother, who was a professor at a small military school for boys called the Centurion School. Before their deaths it had been the wishes of his parents that Tank should attend this school as his father had.

At this academy Jean learned many things that a normal school-aged child would but he also learned many more things that a normal-school aged child wouldn't. Any 1st grader learned how to read and write. The boys of the academy learned to read, write and march.

Adolescence [2362-2366]

Tank was a very normal teen, yet he possessed a depth in his character that few ever saw. Also he excelled at whatever he tried, earning the nickname "The Tank" while charging an enemy bunker in a combat simulation.

At the age of 16 Tank completed all of the studies open to him at the Centurion school, a whole 2 years ahead of his graduating class. The day of his graduation Tank went to a recruiting office and because he was his own guardian (his uncle having let him run his own life) was able to enlist. It was also this day that Jean proposed to his girlfriend of 2 years, Eleanor Christine who was 5 years his senior, she accepted and planned a date for the wedding.

The Marine [2366-2381]

Entering the Service [2366-2367]

File:Green-e-1.png File:Green-o-1.png

Tank completed the basic training course of the Starfleet Marine Corps with flying colors. On his 10 day leave after graduating and receiving his orders to report to OCS in 11 days, Jean and Eleanor were married.

Officer Candidate School was another challenge along the way. Tank had been prepared for basic training and had even found it almost more relaxed than at the Centurion School. He couldn't say the same about OCS as for some reason he drew fire watch 3 nights a week instead of the normal 1.

He kept up his morale and finally his work payed off as he completed OCS and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.

USS Cavalry [2367-2370]

File:Green-o-1.png File:Green-o-2.png

The USS Cavalry was Tank's first assignment and the experience promised to expand his career options and launch him on ahead. He started aboard the ship as a buck Lieutenant and the commander of a platoon under Lieutenant Black and the captain of the ship, Captain Clarke.

After two years aboard the USS Cavalry, Tank was promoted to 1st Lt. and made the Company Commander.

However, Tank became severely depressed after the accidental death of his wife Eleanor who had been coming to see him on a transport as it tried to leave orbit.

The Cavalry was still a part of the second fleet before it's move to Bravo Fleet in late 2379.

USS Vigilant [2370-2376]

File:Green-o-2.png File:Green-o-3.png

In mid-2370 Tank requested and was transferred to the USS Vigilant as the Deputy Commander of the entire Marine Detachment.

With the death of his wife Eleanor in 2369, Tank didn't wish to stay aboard the Calvary. Also, Commander McGenti, a long time friend, had recently been given command of the USS Vigilant.

Tank accepted the request of his friend and came aboard the Vigilant.

After three years Tank was promoted to Captain and given command of the entire Marine Detachment as the former commander was promoted off the ship.

In 2376 McGenti came to Tank and told him of an opportunity that had arisen. The USS Vigilant wasn't going to be in combat and was being held in reserve in sector 001. McGenti, seeing the great potential in Tank, had put in for a transfer to the next ship that was scheduled to go into combat, which was the USS Eclipse.

Tank packed his belongings and was off once again.

USS Eclipse [2376-2379]

Jean Chandler, before his assignment to the USS Eclipse

Tank served three years on the USS Eclipse with Rear Admiral Denton. He was promoted to Major and made the Second Executive Officer as well as being the Marine CO.

When in 2379 the Rear Admiral was given an opportunity to take over a the command of a Starbase, Denton took his ship and crew with him at the agreement of Starfleet.

C'hakilian-Federation War (2378)

The entire marine compound of Hawkeye Island was overrun, while Major Chandler was present on the ground. Major Chandler and a handful of marines, Starfleet and civilian personnel continue to fight using guerrilla tactics after Brigadier General Hunt and the majority of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force. After weeks of fighting in small, independent units many are captured and held until the armistice.

MTRF [2379-2381]

File:Green-o-4.png File:Green-o-5.png

In 2379 Tank was made the Task Force Marine Executive Officer as well as the MTRF Executive Officer, he was also promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.

Things went very well, despite being within light minutes of the occupied Cestus III colony.

Chandler, giving a lecture on Mannheim

In 2381, Tank agreed to take a top-secret special assignment from the head of Starfleet Intelligence. It would prove to be his downfall.

Annual Bat'leth Tournament - KDB (2380)

Tank attended and competed in the 2nd Annual Bat'leth Tournament held at the Klingon starbase of Klach D'kel Brakt. He was beaten in the third round. One of the chief motivations of attending this event was to experience some of the Klingon heritage that he had missed growing up on Earth. He knew little of his family or of his house and hadn't been in contact with anyone from his family. Up to this point and farther Tank believed, falsely, that all of his family are dead.

Annual Bat'leth Tournament - XFY (2381)

The next year Tank attended the tournament again and was again removed early on to his dismay. Shortly after this Tank would be sent on special assignment and would not be eligible to return to the tournament.

The Fall from Grace [2381-2383]

A Special Job [2381]

File:Green-o-5.png File:Green-o-6.png

While on special assignment Tank was wounded severely but recovered, at least physically. He had sustained almost the full force of an explosion and had many internal organs replaced, as well as some prosthetics to repair the damage, including his left shoulder, arm, hand and 3 ribs. The prosthetics appear natural and are limited to the motion and strength of an above average Human/Klingon.

Tank had found out a great deal about the "dark side" of Starfleet Intelligence and had been, unwittingly, a part of an internal mole hunt run by he heads of SFI.

After he successfully exonerated himself to a secret tribunal he was promoted to Colonel and congratulated on his job well done

However, Tank was not at ease with this entire operation and, on his own request, he was discharged from service.

Aftermath [2381-2383]

Few know what happened to Tank after he left Mannheim. Fewer know what happened after his tribunal and promotion. His name was listed on a small roll call that said he had resigned, but there had also been a rumor that he had died while on special assignment.

Tank found refuge in liquor and would have been quite content to drink himself to death now that he had lost the last thing he cared about, the Corps.

Yet, after an interesting turn of events, Tank latched onto the last thing that would keep him alive, a mission in life.

Jean Chandler as he was seen in 2383

He had promised to find the son of Kempala Hurak, the security chief of the USS Sentinal and a close, intimate friend. The two had met at the annual Bat'leth tournament and had developed a close bond thereafter.

At the head of a mercenary crew Tank worked as a smuggler until he had enough latinum to buy off the right people and enough of a reputation to get into the right places.

In a daring rescue Tank was able to save the young Hurak and sent him on to his mother under escort.

Tank once again found himself without a place in the universe. He wasn't a mercenary, he might wear their clothes and take their jobs, but he would never be a mercenary truly.

The Man Reborn [2383-Present]

Re-entry into Service [2383]

File:Red-e-1.png File:Red-e-2.png File:Red-e-3.png File:Yellow-e-4.png

Jean Chandler returning to Starfleet
After completing the mission he set out to do as a mercenary Tank returned to Starfleet seeking his place in the universe. He first attempted to get reinstated at his previous rank of Colonel in the Starfleet Marine Corps. However, political blocking maneuvered to deny him of this honor.

Undaunted Tank filed for an enlistment into the SFMC, however again he was foiled.

There were many reasons to turn him down of course, his age, his injuries, his records. All these things were brought before him at one time or another.

Running out of options Tank got desperate as he turned to an old friend, and captain, Rear Admiral Denton. While Denton was blocked from helping within the SFMC, he still had some influence within the fleet and was able to secure an enlistment into Starfleet for Jean.

While Tank wasn't a marine again he could find meaning for his life in the fleet.

Tank went into basic training, thinking that it would be a breeze for him; he had after all been a Starfleet Marine for 17 years. Yet, his new prosthetics took some getting used to, they made some tasks much more difficult, and he found that it was very difficult to do things he had once thought automatic.

Yet, regardless, Tank fought on seeing this as the light at the end of his tunnel of depression. Finally that fateful day came that Tank graduated from Starfleet Basic Training as the honor recruit of his class.

With all of his specialized training in the SFMC, Tank easily brushed up on his combat skills and was quickly promoted out of his occupational specialty and as a Petty Officer Third Class, Tank was placed in the pool for assignment.

USS Excalibur-B [2383-2383]

File:Yellow-e-4.png File:Red-e-5.png

Tank was reassigned to the USS Excalibur B, which spent many months in drydock to repair extensive damage it had taken long before. Sabotage quickly becomes commonplace as the wrong equipment and materials are consistently delivered to the Excalibur, putting her behind. A charge explodes in one of the torpedo magazines, but all are saved by the quick thinking of some brave crewmen. Someone is behind the mess, and the crew tries to find out exactly who. Ava and Tank, recently united old friends, are kidnapped (more information}; soon after Commodore Martens is attacked on Qualor III while sending out a message to the public.

Tank and Ava found themselves on an outpost run by the remnants of Tank's long lost house, forced into exile by a rival. Tank is put the a test of honor by his house, succeeding Tank was made third lord of the House of Ko'tal.

The Excalibur discovered a group of the original Iconians, hiding on a planet.

Details pending...

At the close of the mission Tank was promoted to Petty Officer 2nd Class and made the Chief of the Boat. However, without a ship, Tank and Bob travel to Starbase Bravo shortly after Bob is advanced to Admiral and made the Executive Officer of the 4th Fleet.

Annual Bat'leth Tournament - Starbase Bravo (2384)

Tank and Bob attended the Annual Bat'leth Tournament at Starbase Bravo, Tank as a competitor and Bob as a spectator. Tank was eliminated in the 2nd round by a bartender, Cash.

USS Excalibur [2384-Present]

An elite, hand-picked crew are assigned with Admiral Martens to a new ship, a defiant, bearing the name of the USS Excalibur by special dispensation due to Marten's new rank. Tank continues to mourn the death of his Imzadi, Ava, who is believed to have died in the destruction of the Excalibur-B.
