AeroWing
From Bravo Fleet InfoBase
Overview
The bottom of the Primary Hull/saucer holds a single aerodynamic shuttle capable of atmospheric travel as well as interplanetary flight at speeds up to Warp 4 (Warp 5 for 18 hours). The AeroWing is mounted on the underside of the saucer section during normal flight operations of the Intrepid class and is rarely used by crew or Captain. AeroWing is also known as the Captain's Yacht.
The USS Horizon's AeroWing may serve as a runabout since its design and technology is heavily based on Danube Class runabout. AeroWing is also known as the Captain's Yacht aboard Intrepid class ships and thus provides a large secondary craft capable of long-range travel in most cases manned by the Captain. In addition, the AeroWing provides protection, armament, and sensor capabilities beyond that of a standard auxiliary shuttle.
The AeroWing aboard the USS Horizon has been modified with the powerplant and firepower to handle like a single-seat fighter craft and provide extra protection in case of emergencies.
